BOOK CLUBS

Over the year fourth grade will be having Book Clubs. Students select books that they are interested in reading. They break up into groups (some students are working individually) and each day read a chapter or two. Most of the book clubs are being read aloud to students. Each person takes turn reading a page. This has students practicing their fluency. Fluency is a person’s ability to read aloud.

When the pages are completed the students have different jobs: Word Wizard, Discussion Leader, Illustrator, and Summarizer. If you like you can ask students what the responsibilities are for each job. There are currently four books in rotation: The Mouse and the Motorcycle, Bunnicula, Cam Jansen and the Case of the Missing Tooth and Stonewords (or the ghost story). Take a minute this week to ask your child about the book they are reading.
