We are working on a unit called STRONG SENTENCES AND POWERFUL PARAGRAPHS. The unit will focus on students writing descriptive sentences and paragraphs with topic sentence. Students will also be looking at the different types of sentences (simple, compound and complex). The study of sentence types will analyze of parts of speech subject, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Students will also be practicing using mind mapping and the revision process.
This week students must turn in three mind maps and three rough draft paragraphs. This is the minimum requirement. Many students are going above and beyond. They are working on five-seven mind maps and paragraphs. Still another group has chosen to work on mutli-pargraph essays.
There are many ways you can support your child in this unit. First you can talk to them about the topics they are writing about. Second, take a minute to help your child research the topics on the computer. You can print the information and bring it in the following day. Lastly a trip to the library could really improve their work.
